From start-up to mid-sized business

How Bacteromic and BIT brought a diagnostic device to series production, helping to save lives today

Faster diagnostics, better treatment

Bacteromic Sp. z o.o. is a spin-off start-up from the Scope Fluidics Group that has turned an obvious fact into a product: faster diagnostics save lives.

In cases of severe bacterial infections, every hour counts, yet conventional antibiotic susceptibility tests often take several days. The Bacteromic System delivers the result in just six hours: which antibiotic is effective against the patient’s specific bacterial strain? An answer that enables doctors to treat patients quickly and precisely, and one that can make all the difference in a critical situation.

The idea for a device that could save lives was born. What was missing was a partner that could not only respond flexibly to the needs of a start-up, but also understood the regulatory requirements and could combine both efficiently. Bacteromic found that partner in BIT.

Where others stop, BIT begins

Bacteromic had developed two devices with the potential to revolutionise antibiotic diagnostics, but its own manufacturing capacity had been exhausted. And the clock was ticking: the devices were still in the middle of the regulatory approval process.

BIT took charge of the design transfer, maintaining a consistent focus on readiness for series production and production reliability. Potential for optimising individual components was identified at an early stage, and appropriate solutions were developed in collaboration with Bacteromic. By implementing the improvements directly during the ongoing transfer process, subsequent modifications to devices that had already been manufactured were avoided, thereby saving time and costs.

Close to the device. Even closer to the customer

As the design transfer progressed, BIT supported Bacteromic with an interdisciplinary team of experts directly on site in Warsaw. Together, they evaluated the identified optimisation potential, defined technical adjustments, and efficiently integrated them into the transfer process. In doing so, BIT took on far more than the role of a manufacturing service provider: as a development partner, the team combined engineering expertise, hands-on implementation skills, and close collaboration.

Through the manufacturing transfer to BIT, Bacteromic gained the crucial freedom it needed: the team was able to focus more intensively on further developing the device and advancing the approval process.

A milestone for patient care

The result speaks for itself: in the first half of 2026, the regulatory approval of the Bacteromic System was successfully completed. A milestone – not only for Bacteromic, but for all patients who will benefit in the future from faster, more precise antibiotic diagnostics.

What makes us really proud of this project? That, in the end, it wasn’t just a device that received regulatory approval – but a partnership that emerged and demonstrated what is possible when both sides truly support one another: technically, medically and on a human level.
